There are others like Thumbtack that have changed their structure, but there are zero referrals coming through them now since they've changed their advertising and fee structure. They're not producing as they did last year, but LegalMatch has consistently provided a steady stream of clients who are willing to consider hiring you as opposed to a source like YP or DX.
One tip I can give is to make sure you have your LegalMatch mobile app on and available because what you want to do is contact the referral before anybody else does.
The interface is very good. The prompts and reply screen have everything there that you need to keep notes. You can make offers and follow up letters with the templates. It has a basic exposition of the potential client as far as the legal facts are concerned. This includes but is not limited to details of the case, the client’s financial status, family background, and other pertinent facts useful for my assessment. So I think it's very well set up. It helps feed my family and keep my employees working. That's priceless.
We were with YP and DX for over two decades. However, their policies became more and more oppressive. They became more and more disingenuous and their sales rep would say just anything in order for you to sign up for a yearly campaign. Then they would make all these promises.
There's a lot of things they say that are very invasive. One is with regards to tricking you into putting their phone number in place of yours, the other is their advertising.
What they do is that if you are ever late with their exorbitant monthly fees which is around two or three thousand dollars a month, they could cut off your phone. They also have this notion that they are better at managing your Google AdWords as opposed to you directly administering it. We found that during the year we used their administrators for Google AdWords, our phones would not ring. We would get crosslines with the wrong numbers. We’d get phantom phone calls.
So I think LegalMatch has got a good thing going as compared with other lead generating sites.
